Price & Purchase Process & Packaging:

The Huda Beauty Amethyst Obsessions palette is a limited-edition holiday item ($27 for 0.35) that I purchased from Sephora online. The palette contains nine hues of purple for $27 making the palette a pretty decent deal if you are looking for a palette heavy with the theme of purple. The palette arrived in good condition along with other items I ordered, however, I was disappointed with the over simplistic packaging, which did little for presentation or for protection of the palette itself.

Pigmentation & Color Payoff & Performance:

Another disappointing factor about the palette was the complete lack of shade names for the consumer making shades difficult to identify and reference. Another surprising issue with the palette was, although the shadows swatched beautifully and with little effort, it was quite necessary to use an eye primer as well as a dampened shader brush to apply shimmer shades to the lid. Also, if you have any type of texture or bumpiness on your eyelids, you will have significant difficulty applying the shimmer shades to your eyelids. I am not one who likes to go through a lot of ancillary changes in order to apply a shadow to my lid, but admittedly the required extra steps significantly improve the application process and guarantee an amazing lid shade. Incidentally, as a side note, I did not have the same issues with any of the original “Obsession” mini palettes and the shimmer shadows, but I did have the same problem with the “Sapphire Obsession” palette.

This palette creates a very specific type of eye look. If you are a person that enjoys pinks & purples, then this is the palette for you, but be aware that those are the only type of looks that you are going to be able to create. The matte shadows are quite pigmented but easy to blend out to create soft and sultry looks. You can deepen the outer “v” and crease with one of the matte shades without mudding up your look, and still blend your deeper shades with the transition & crease shades.

Overall Product Presentation:

I think that this palette is an excellent deal for the price, but there is definitely a learning curve and as I mentioned previously, please realize that you are only going to produce monochromatic looks. If you are wanting something more blue, green, or red in tone, check out the other limited-edition “Obsession” palettes.

Rating: 7.5/10 I love this palette, but it takes more effort than I can tolerate creating a basic look. Be aware of your lids have texture, having hooded eyes, or mature lids.
