***SASSY BITCHES OVER 40***

1.       Beauty and makeup are subjective. The only opinion that matters about your makeup and general appearance is YOURS, so own your BEAUTY!

2.       Wear makeup for you and no one else. If you are waiting for someone else to recognize your outer beauty, then you will not be able to recognize on your own. More importantly, you won’t be able to appreciate your inner beauty either.

3.       You do not HAVE to wear makeup every day, UNLESS, you want to.

4.       Ask yourself….What am I comfortable with? It will save a lot of time being pretentious.

5.       Where are you going during the day? Me, personally, I can wear my makeup to work or to the club because of my personality, but perhaps you’re not comfortable with wearing blue and green eye makeup to work or church and that’s completely ok!!! So, ask yourself, where am I going today and will I be comfortable socially with my look.

6.       Base makeup: Are you a foundation type of gal, and if so, are you a more luminous person, or do you prefer a matte finish. *You may want to consider your skin type (oily, dry, or combo) when considering a foundation or PERHAPS, you prefer not wear a foundation, but powder instead? OR maybe you prefer neither?

7.       When picking base products, for the love of God, ask for help. Matching your base product to your skin can be very tricky, so if you need help ask for it!

8.       Know your color wheel. Do you prefer Neutral, Cool, Warm or Bright eye looks. Warm or Cool blushes and bronzers and what color highlighter (if you choose) to wear it looks best on your skin. Remember, just because it’s beautiful doesn’t mean it’s the best choice for your skin tone.

10.   What products do you want to wear on a daily basis? Foundation, powder, mascara, eyeliner, lashes, eyeshadow, brow products, blush, highlighter, etc

11.   Are you interested in higher end products or something budget friendly or maybe both? Whatever you decide is your choice, and it’s perfectly ok to choose what suits you best! Don’t allow outside influence to dictate what you should use in your collection. Reviews and outside perspectives are great, but remember the final choice is YOURS!

12.   Your look does NOT have to match your outfit. Eccentric and eclectic are in!

13.   Your makeup collection is YOURS. You don’t have to ask anyone permission to own anything. Don’t let people shame you for what you buy (or over buy 😊)

**Remember, you can appreciate something beautiful in its many forms and understand that it may not be the look for you. That’s ok! You are an individual so always be authentic and be proud to be sassy and sexy and over 40!

A Palette & A Partner - Week 36 ****Weekly Palette & Product Rotation***

This week our faithful friend Wheel Decide has picked out some great items. As I continue to review and collect items, I realize that I need to really go through things and see if there are some things I am willing to part with. I am not in the market to be a minimalist, although there is nothing wrong with that, but I am looking to get better use of the products I love. I have so many products that it seems excessive and it is and that doesn't necessarily bother me, but what does bother me is that products are going to waste when I could resell them or gift them to others. What a problem to have, right? Check out this week's group below!

Panning 18 in '18 - Update #2 December

Panning Project Products:
  • ·       Becca Highlighter - Opal #1
  • ·       Lorac Pro 1 #2
  • ·       Too Faced - Semi Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette #3
  • ·       Urban Decay - Naked Basics 2 #4 - #9
  • ·       Sephora - Blushed Bronzed & Ready To Glow (Bronzer & Warm Blush) #10 & #11
  • ·       Wet N Wild Single Shadows (2) & Laura Mercier Single Shadows (2) #12 - #15
  • ·       Tarte Contour Kit (Original) Blush, Contour 1 & Contour 2 #16-#18

So, this is more difficult than I first envisioned….I did not realize what I was getting myself into. More and more it is coming to the very forefront of my consciousness that really enjoy my beauty items and beauty room or that I have a seriously deluded view of appropriate monetary spending. It might a combo type situation. Since I have so much makeup and I refused to declutter anything in a substantial manner, I find it difficult to make any serious headway with panning my items. Wait, let me take that back. I have a couple of products with dents, so I can’t totally deny that progress isn’t happening. It’s probably not happening in the way I want it to. Being the type of woman I am, things have to go a certain, very particular way or anarchy ensues. I wish I was a more relaxed kinda gal, but that’s not my way. I am trying to give myself credit for the progress made, and focus on what I can do to further progression. It may go back to the initial idea that I have way too much makeup, but for the moment, I am totally ok with it.

So, I have never attempted to pan some of my collection, and most people, not all, but most people who pan are interested in a type of minimalism or better use of their products and frankly, I am interested in neither. Is that the wrong attitude to have in this type of challenge? Good thing that I can make my panning project about what I want to instead a journey towards minimalism. For me, I haven’t quite determined what panning is about in terms of this project and that’s ok. Sometimes you start something and don’t exactly know where you’re going but you just move forward and figure it out. That’s the cool thing about individualism. Hopefully, in my future updates, I can better define what this project is supposed to look like. I have a little over a year to figure it out and I am continually doing research on what panning is to others. Updates are scheduled to come on or around the 10th. I’ll keep you posted!

Mini Product Review ***Kat Von D - Saint & Sinner Palette***

Price & Purchase Process & Packaging:

Kat Von D’s Saint and Sinner palette was purchased from Sephora for $62 the day it went live for sale online. Even though the palette was/is in high demand, I received it within two days from Sephora. The first one shipped to me was damaged with four shades cracked and falling apart throughout the palette. I made a quick call to Sephora’s customer service department and they replaced the palette and I received it within two days. As with every Kat Von D product I own, the exterior packaging was extremely detailed, ornate, and is indicative of Kat Von D’s style. Inspired by “vibrant stained glass windows of gothic cathedrals,” the palette’s packaging showcases Kat’s beautiful artistry while keeping with the dignity & integrity of the origin of the cathedrals it represents.

Pigmentation & Color Payoff & Performance:

One thing I really enjoy about Kat Von D’s eyeshadow palette is the complete and utter originality in each palette. It is easily in the top 5 of my favorite eyeshadow formulations. The wide and varying range of shadows and finishes in the palette is remarkable and the depth of the pigmentation is indeed impressive. This palette allows the user to create a number of eye looks, from a more conservative and muted look to an eccentric and bold look. From the description of the palette on the Sephora website, “The Saint + Sinner Eyeshadow Palette features 24 pigment-packed shades inspired by the kaleidoscopic stained glass windows of old world gothic cathedrals. Embrace your softer side with 12 saintly shades—dreamy, wearable, and effortlessly romantic. Unleash your inner Sinner with 12 bold color pops—empowering, unexpected, and insanely pigmented.” Nothing could be truer than the previous statement. Kat Von D’s last several holiday palettes have been well received by the beauty community and unlike other brands who skimp on production during the holidays, Von D’s palette are consistent regardless of the time of year.

Overall Product Presentation:

I was late hopping on the Kat Von D loyalty train and I had to purchase the Monarch, the Chrysalis, the Sepentina and the Metal/Matte palettes from secondary markets after production.  The year I refused to miss out on the Saint & Sinner palette and grabbed it the day it launched. I think this palette is jazzy and original and can create a multitude of looks appropriate for many different occasion, many skin tones, and the varying needs of the everyday consumer. When I made my list of products that I was going to purchase for this holiday, this palette was on the list and I am very pleased to have it among my collection.

Bougie Brie's Monthly Best in Beauty - November

This month has seen some impressive products launch and along with old-time favorites, I have compiled my Monthly Best in Beauty. Full reviews of some of these products will follow in the coming weeks and the oldies but goodies may already have a review on my site! Let me know what you think!

Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation
I am a matte finish girl all the way. I do not look very attractive in a natural finish or a dewy finish. I want my makeup to be flawless and that starts with a good foundation. Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation is a FULL coverage foundation and it not for the faint of heart. If you want some serious coverage, this might work for you. The only drawback is that the foundation oxidizes, so I have two shades that I mix together in order to compensate for the change in color.

Natasha Denona Lila Palette
This is a beautiful palette with colors that look amazing on my dark eyes. I admit I am biased. I love Natasha Denona, but I promise you that I have yet to be disappointed in her eyeshadows. It’s an investment for sure, that’s absolutely true, but I think I am worth it!

Natasha Denona Sunset Palette
I am not necessarily a warm tone person. I tend to lean more neutral and cool, but this palette is so beautiful and blends so well, that I can help but create looks that are appealing and compliment my skin tone! Some people made the comparison to this palette & Colourpop’s Yes Please! Palette (which I also own), and although I see the similarities, the quality is comparable.

Maybelline Fit Me Loose Finishing Powder
I have been using this powder consistently for the last month or so. It is super lightweight, controls shine, and smooths skin. I purchased the color medium and it was a wonderful match. I enjoy this powder so much that I purchased two backups, which I caught on sale at Ulta. It is extremely affordable and long wearing!

Jordana Easyliner for Lips Retractable Pencil in Cabernet

I have been using this lip liner since College. It is my absolute “Ride or Die” lip liner and I love it for the fall/winter time. It is a deep cranberry/purple liner that goes on very smooth and evenly. The kicker about this product is that is great quality and costs about $1.29

Product Review & Haul ***Tarte Fall/Holiday Collection***

Price & Purchase Process & Packaging:

The Tarte Holiday 2017 Collection is impressively large and has many options for consumers ranging from face products, to cheek products, to eyeshadow palettes. The collection is being sold in its entirety on Tarte’s website and at other well-known merchants such as Sephora & Ulta. I purchased the Magic Star Collector’s Set & the Blush Bliss Blush Set from the Ulta location on Kirby here in Houston, Texas and I ordered the Limited Edition Treasure Box Collector’s Set, the Limited Edition Blush Bazaar, and the Limited Edition Buried Treasure Eyeshadow Palette from Sephora. I also ordered the Limited Edition Happy Girls Shine Brighter Eye & Cheek Palette, the Tartelette Toasted Eyeshadow Palette, the Blush Book Volume III, and the Limited Edition Goddess Glow Highlighter directly from the Tarte website on October 19, and I have yet to receive a shipment notice.

Pigmentation & Color Payoff & Performance:

I will admit that I am bias when it comes to Tarte products. A lot of people in the beauty community comment on how dry the face, eye, and cheek powders are and view the powders as chalky. People assume that if a powder’s formulation is a little on the dry side that it isn’t as pigmented and it’s more difficult to blend. Part of that may be true (drier products tend to be less pigmented), but in all honesty, I’d rather spend a little time building up a color that deal with an over-pigmented product that is difficult to blend out. Not every product is the same, as you well know, and a simple adjustment in application and technique can really make a difference.

Tarte’s blushes are amazing. Hands down some of the best blushes in the business. They are people of color friendly, come in a variety of shades, and build up so nicely on the skin. The Blush Bazaar and the Blush Bliss Blush Set (I haven’t received the Blush Book Volume III) are completely in line with Tarte’s regular blush line. Often, companies cut corner on holiday items, but these blushes are truly worth the money.

Now, some brands market themselves in such a way that the consumer knows what to expect from them. For example, brands like Urban Decay and Kat Von D are known for being a little more daring and stepping outside the box. They are progressive with bright, fun, pigmented, colors, their packaging is creative and different. Then there’s Tarte…So, this is what you get with Tarte…Neutral brown tones, with similarly colored shimmers. You get a color for the transition and crease and a color to deepening up the outer v and a shimmery brown/gold color. Every palette is pretty much the same, which speaks to the brands consistency, but in all my years of using Tarte’s powder products the most colorful and creative powders materialize in their unicorn collection. If you like neutral colors and many variations of the same shades, the Tarte is your brand. I do want to mention that they kill it in the packaging department. The holiday collection, as with most of Tarte’s releases, has the most stunning, detailed, and beautifully put together colors & figures.

Overall Product Presentation:

I really like the holiday collection from Tarte, but I am flexible and gauge my purchases on what the brand offers consistently. Tarte does not tend to deviate from their formula, or color dynamic. They are consistent in their gorgeous packaging presentation. I would not go to Tarte and purchase something colorful or different because that’s not their lane. They stay pretty neutral, so if that’s what you’re into, then check out the holiday collection.
