Mini Product Review: ****Tartelette Toasted****

Price & Purchase Process & Packaging:

I am a Tarte Cosmetics fan. Although the company stays comfortably in a very safe shade range, in my experience the product quality products. When the Tartelette Toasted launched, I made it my business to make my way to the Tarte website to purchase the third palette in the Tartelette series. I made an order for the palette along with the Big Blush Book Volume III and a couple of other ancillary items and the package arrived at my home undamaged and ahead of shipping schedule…. Impressive, yes? As a side note, I would like to mention that I have always had a pleasant experience with Tarte’s customer service and shipping. Customer service is important to many consumers, so I find it important to include that factual experience.

Pigmentation & Color Payoff & Performance:

The Tartelette Toasted’ s color dynamic is indicative of its name. Though many consider the Tartelette in Bloom a warm palette, and it is (warm leaning), the Tartelette Toasted is indeed a warm palette which strikes a chord with many consumers, young and old, that find warm tones suitable and attractive on their eyes. The twelve-pan palette includes shades that are new to Tarte’s line and it is loaded with 7 mattes & 5 lustrous shimmers. The shadow pans are magnetic for customization and I find that the matte to shimmer ration is the PERFECT and ideal composition of a twelve-pan palette. As with the majority of Tarte’s products, the shadows are made with Amazonian Clay which aids in creating a shadow that is pigmented, yet blends easily while still maintaining the integrity of the shade’s creamy texture.

My concern when first purchasing this palette was two-fold. One, this is too similar to Urban Decay’s Naked Heat and two, I am going to come up with the same eye looks over and over again, because the palette doesn’t have enough shade variation. Although the palette is similar to the Naked Heat, the composition of the palette is different in terms of mattes and shimmers. Secondly, I did have a tough time creating varied and different looks, but I found this palette to be the essential go-to fall palette for me personally. I like it a bit better than the Naked Heat and I find that the variation is a little more distinct and usable for me as a consumer and reviewer.

Overall Product Presentation:

Tarte is capitalizing on the ever popular warm-tone palette trend. Strategically, it’s a wise move as a business and its effort to give the consumer what they want (or what they think they want, according to what’s trending). With so warm-toned palettes, the issue then becomes how do we (Tarte) set ourselves and our product apart from the ordinary and not die a death of mediocracy and copycatism (™) (Yes I just made up that word and trademarked it, lol). Although tricky, there are several ways to accomplish this feat. One way is to either improve or maintain a consistent and worthy shadow formula. Checkmark Tarte 🗹. Another is to offer a different aspect in terms of functionality to the palette that others do not (i.e. removal magnetic shades). Checkmark Tarte🗹. The most important and unique way to blaze a trail of extraordinary effort is to satisfy both sides without compromising the integrity of the piece (i.e. create a different and optimal shade ratio for the palette that is both functional and practical. Many palettes heavily favor mattes over shimmers, and vice versa, but making a palette in which the matte & shimmer lovers are satisfied alike is simple but genius). Checkmark Tarte 🗹.
I really, really enjoy this palette. It is probably, strike that, it is my favorite warm-toned palette. The formulation of the shades is incredible, and the palette is marketed to wider variety of people. Cast your net wide, and you gather more fish!

Product Review & Haul - O - Day ***Bare Minerals Holiday Eyeshadow Palette Collection***

Price & Purchase Process & Packaging:

The three palettes that I am reviewing from Bare Minerals are listed below. Each palette was acquired over a 3-week period and tested individually for a full week. I feel like I have a thorough understanding how the shadows apply, the performance and wear time of the shadows, and an idea of the various eye looks that can be created using these palettes. All palettes arrive at my home undamaged and each palette had suitable packaging, both outer and inner, that demonstrated the concept of said palette. I was particularly impressed with The Hidden Treasures palette, which is a Holiday exclusive specifically marketed at Ulta. This palette was packaged in a sturdy metal construct with a beautiful decorative feature on the face of the palette. The palette contains gold and silver accents and truly captures that idea of the Holiday season. It holds a truly classic and Christmas thematic idealism in a sleek and compact design.
  • bareNaturals – 14 shades, dual-ended brush, Ulta $45
  • The Nature of Nudes – 14 shades, 0.04 oz. each, Ulta $42
  • The Hidden Treasures 18.0 Ready Palette – 18 shades, holiday exclusive, Ulta $46

Pigmentation & Color Payoff & Performance:

Up until purchasing these palettes, my experience with Bare Minerals was limited to their Complexion Rescue Foundation (excellent) and 2 Holiday quads that I purchased from Poshmark. I enjoy these products immensely and I am principally fond of the Complexion Rescue Foundation, but that’s neither here, nor there.

To be quite frank, although I enjoyed these palettes quite thoroughly, there was no need to purchase all three because they are pretty similar. There may be some slight, and I mean very slight differences in shade tone and texture, but the palettes are entirely too similar to purchase the trio. Bare Minerals makes quality eyeshadows, there is no denying that. They are all creamy and packed with color, but they rarely deviate from their comfort zone. Have you ever seen an editorial palette from the brand? Not that I can recall. In terms of everyday wearable shadows that are work appropriate but still are able to be utilized for a sultry sexy evening look, Bare Minerals has these types of eye looks on lockdown, along with Tarte. With that being said, wouldn’t you like to see something funky, true foiled metallic shades, with a tinge of theatre color?? I would definitely pay money to see a company like Bare Mineral do something completely different that is trendy, yet retro inspired, that brings innovation and creativity to an entirely new level. Just a thought!

Overall Product Presentation:

So, do I think these palettes are decent? Yes, I actually think that they are way above decent. They are really good quality shadows with a very dense and pigmented presentation. Here’s the issue. . They are too damn similar and very, very ordinary. Nothing shocking, nothing outrageous, nothing that makes you say, “damn, that’s the palette I want to buy.” If you are an every day working Jane or Joe and you’re looking for natural, reliable, beautiful shades, then by all means, grab one of these palettes, but if you are looking for outrageous and groundbreaking eyeshadows that will shake your socks off, this ain’t the one for you, hon.
